FIA set to expand stewards for six races in 2025

The FIA will have four race stewards instead of three at the 2025 season opener in Australia and other busy races like China, Canada, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil. This change comes after Johnny Herbert was dropped as a steward and is meant to help with quicker decisions during races. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem rejected the idea of F1 teams paying for full-time race officials, saying proper training and investment are more important. He also confirmed there will be more than one race director this season after Niels Wittich lost his role last year.

Ferrari reportedly delays Cardile's move to Aston Martin

Enrico Cardile is set to join Aston Martin, but Ferrari is blocking his move until July 17 due to a 12-month gardening leave. This delay has frustrated Aston Martin, as it limits Cardile’s impact on their 2026 F1 car under the new regulations. Aston Martin CEO Lawrence Stroll is reportedly angry over what appears to be a broken mediation agreement between the teams. Lawyers are now involved, and Aston Martin’s Andy Cowell has avoided answering direct questions about Cardile’s start date.

Newey starts work at Aston Martin

Adrian Newey has started working at Aston Martin as their managing technical partner after leaving Red Bull and will now earn £30 million a year. Aston Martin changed their management team before he arrived, making Andy Cowell the team principal and Enrico Cardile the chief technical officer. A photo of Newey’s office showed a large drawing board, as he prefers traditional design methods. Since Aston Martin struggled in pre-season testing, Newey will likely focus more on the big rule changes in 2026 than the 2025 car.

Testing data backs Norris as the front-runner

McLaren looked strongest in Bahrain testing, with Lando Norris showing incredible speed and beating Charles Leclerc and Andrea Kimi Antonelli by over a second in his final stint. Oscar Piastri also did well, staying ahead of George Russell, while Ferrari’s performance was unclear because of Lewis Hamilton’s car issues. Max Verstappen had a tough time with Red Bull’s RB21, spinning on track and saying they might not be the fastest in Australia. McLaren is in a great position, but their rear instability and the different conditions in Melbourne could still change things.

Palou wins IndyCar season opener

Alex Palou started the 2025 IndyCar season with a big win at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, beating Scott Dixon by 2.8669 seconds. He started in eighth place but used a smart strategy to take his 12th career victory and lead a Ganassi 1-2 finish. Palou is focused on winning his third straight title, knowing he is the only driver who can make history this year. He says there is no time to relax even with a strong car because the competition is tough, and he needs to keep winning.
