Max Verstappen claimed the victory in Suzuka after starting the race from pole position. The Dutchman had a dominant race, going on to become the first driver to win four consecutive times at the Suzuka International Circuit. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri completed the podium
After numerous exciting practice sessions and a very tight qualifying, it is finally time for the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix! Max Verstappen will start the race on pole after setting the fastest lap, not only in the qualifying session, but also in the history of the Suzuka circuit. The McLaren drivers were close behind the Red Bull driver with Lando Norris qualifying in P2 and Oscar Piastri finishing in P3. Liam Lawson out qualified Yuki Tsunoda to finish in P13 for his first qualifying session back in the Racing Bull after the mid-season seat swap from Red Bull. Isack Hadjar had the most standout performance during the qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix with the young rookie putting his Racing Bull in P7 on the grid. Carlos Sainz originally qualified in P12 but received a 3-place starting grid penalty for impeding Lewis Hamilton. this meant that the Spaniard will start the Grand Prix from P15 ahead of the Stake of Nico Hulkenberg. With the grid fully set, see what happened during the Grand Prix:
- Max Verstappen started on pole ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri
- Today was Oscar Piastri's birthday. If the young Australian won the Grand Prix, then he would become one of only three Formula 1 drivers who have won a race on their birthday
- Verstappen was complaining early on of his shifts feeling weird and not working
- The Red Bull team seemed to figure it out shortly after
- Lance Stroll was the first driver to pit during the race, switching to a set of hard tires on Lap 10
- McLaren tried to trick the Red Bull of Max Verstappen to pit on Lap 19 by doing a dummy call
- Lando Norris ended up pitting the next lap
- On Lap 23, Kimi Antonelli became the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to lead a Grand Prix
- The young Italian driver led the race until Lap 32 when he headed into the pit lane
- His lead was growing and it was clear that the rookie was seeming very comfortable at the front of the pack
- There was lots of speculation over whether or not McLaren would swap Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri during the closing stages of the race
- Piastri's pace seemed to be stronger and would potentially give the team a better chance at fighting Verstappen for the win
- Kimi Antonelli continued to set the fastest lap of the race, going on the radio to say he was, "giving it everything"
- Max Verstappen won from pole ahead of Lando Norris and the McLaren of Oscar Piastri
