Lando Norris sat behind Oscar for most of the session, but jumped ahead in the final practice lap ahead Qualifying
Scorching sun and track temperatures set the stage for the final practice session of the Saudi Arabian GP race weekend. Here's what happened:
- Track temperatures started at a very hot 125 degrees Fahrenheit (52 degrees Celsius)
- Teams were slow-playing this practice, with over a quarter of the session passing and more than half of teams had yet to set a lap time
- Jack Doohan was noted by the Race Director for putting one tire over the white line near the pit entry. Given the high-speed nature of this circuit and the danger that poses, it's a special safety measure that all teams and drivers must follow. Jack asked his team to show him onboard footage to avoid the situation during Qualifying and the Grand Prix
- George Russell, Charles Leclerc, and even Alex Albon put in laps that came close to the top of the timing pylon, but it was the McLaren duo that could not be beat
- Oscar Piastri dominated the track over the entire grid and was stronger relative to teammate Lando Norris. When George Russell improved his lap time, Oscar cleared it by seven tenths
- When Lewis Hamilton radioed to check his lap differential, his engineer shared it was "7 tenths first sector. 4 tenths second sector." Lewis' response? A disheartened, "jeez..."
- Stake was quiet over the radio when Gabriel Bortoleto reported engine trouble to avoid giving any intel to other teams
- Lando Norris squeezed in one more flying lap and was able to leapfrog Oscar to put in the fastest final lap of the session: 1:27.489
