Oscar Piastri led the second free practice session in Suzuka ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris, and the Racing Bull of Isack Hadjar
The second practice of the Japanese Grand Prix race weekend just concluded at the Suzuka Circuit. Lando Norris topped the Free Practice 1 ahead of George Russell and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Ryo Hirakawa replaced Jack Doohan during FP1 to be the first reserve driver of the season to complete a practice session. The Japanese driver finished the session in P12 in front of his home crowd with Alpine. Both of the Red Bull drivers looked more comfortable in their cars with Max Verstappen finishing in P5, just ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, who only just recently joined the Red Bull team after swapping seats with Liam Lawson. See what happened in the second free practice session in Suzuka:
- Lando Norris topped the first free practice session ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc
- Both of the Alpine drivers were back in the car after Ryo Hirakawa replaced Jack Doohan during FP1 to drive for Alpine at his home Grand Prix
- Jack Doohan brought out the Red Flag early on in the session after going into the barriers at high speeds
- The young driver was ok, but his car was totalled, leaving the mechanics with tons of work ahead of qualifying on Saturday
- Shortly after the session was green flagged, Fernando Alonso dipped his wheel into the grass, sending him right into the gravel
- This brought out a second red flag and had the session paused while the marshals collected the Spaniard's Aston Martin
- The drivers have had a very interrupted session with limited time on track due to the red flags
- With 13 minutes left on the clock, a third red flag was brought out
- The grass caught on fire, causing smoke on the side of the track
- This was a quicker fix in comparison to the Jack Doohan and Fernando Alonso incidents
- The red flag was brought out for a fourth and final time after another grass fire ignited with only 10 seconds left in the session
- Oscar Piastri topped the session ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris, and Isack Hadjar
