We're back in Coffee Corner Motorsport's Tech Corner! Welcome to the first F1 sprint of 2025 at the Bahrain Grand Prix
Coffee Corner Motorsport's top technical advancements we've seen at the Bahrain GP with an entire upgrade package for the Ferrari's! Find out what makes these upgrades important for the season.
Before every race the teams submit a list of new parts to the FIA that they have brought with them for the race weekend to run on their cars. I then take a look at the ones that have caught my eye and bring them to you in more detail and explain just what the teams are hoping to get from the updates.
McLaren x 1 Performance update.
Ferrari x 5 Performance update
Red Bull x 2 Performance update
Haas x 1 Circuit specific update
Welcome to Round 4 of the F1 calendar and a return to a familiar track! We're returning to the scene of pre season testing in Bahrain!
With Free Practice 1 being dominated by the rookie sessions there is little extra on the cars, apart from Ferrari. The Italians have brought the first major update package of the season with another due in Imola as they aim to correct some of the early performance issues of the SF-25 with the introduction of a new floor.
With this in mind:
Welcome to the Bahrain Tech Corner: Ferrari Edition! Let's dive into what is new on the SF-25!
Most of the Ferrari update is in their new floor. There’s been a lot of discussion about whether this floor would make it onto the car, at all. Reports in Italy suggested a split on whether it should be introduced. The reality is that Ferrari needs it. Their current setups are being compromised by having to raise their ride height, which also results in a loss of performance. So here are the updates:
Floor Fences

The team has explained that the fences are designed to improve the losses experienced during downstream travel. There appears to be a clever redistribution of the second fence, and what seems to be a split in the third fence. These fences are crucial because they generate strong vortex structures that enhance downforce and handling by connecting the front and rear of the floor. By redirecting and channeling the airflow underneath the car, the fences increase downforce, improve grip, and also enable faster cornering speeds when functioning optimally.
Floor Body

Ferrari has revealed that the body has been reshaped from the leading edge and has also been expanded to include a tunnel in the SF-25. Naturally, this is an area that the teams strive to keep under wraps as much as possible. The body features those intricate venturi tunnels, which are long, streamlined channels that accelerate airflow, thereby enhancing low-pressure generation. The floor body, of course, is also home to the plank, an area that Ferrari has been grappling with this season. The floor body must incorporate all of these updates that Ferrari has introduced to ensure optimal performance, as even a slight malfunction in the floor body can compromise the entire setup.
Floor Edge

The team has informed us that the floor edges have been extended and re-profiled. This modification aims to address the elevated ride height that the team has been grappling with, as we discussed earlier. The edges are meticulously designed to control and manipulate airflow beneath the car. Notably, they are not merely flat surfaces but incorporate various design features, such as downward ramps and ripples. These features are meticulously crafted to generate and direct vortices, which serve as a seal and help the car adhere firmly to the floor.
Diffuser

There is also a new diffuser on the Ferrari that has been introduced to complement the new floor. The diffuser is a channel at the rear of the car that is shaped to allow the flow of air that has been directed under the floor to expand and slow down.
Ferrari will be hoping all of these updates will help bring them back into contention at the top of the timing charts once again and allow them to maximise setup.
