The season is kicking off at the Albert Park Street Circuit in Melbourne for the first practice session of the Grand Prix weekend!
We are finally back at Albert Park for the Australian Grand Prix! The first Free Practice session of the weekend was underway promptly and gave us a great look at all the cars. Here are some of the highlights from the session:
- We had our first red flag of the year with a gravel trap spraying onto the track. That cut time out of an otherwise uneventful start to the session as drivers stretched their legs after a long winter break
- Max Verstappen complained of instability and was taken into the pits to check his car configuration
- Carlos Sainz pushed the pace in his Williams, topping the timesheet with nearly 22 minutes left
- At the same time as Carlos put in a strong lap, reserve driver turned rookie Oliver Bearman crashed his Haas to bring about the second red flag. His car was badly damaged and needed to be removed on a flatbed truck
- Lewis Hamilton voiced concerns with understeer in his first run of a Ferrari
- With just over 30 seconds left George Russell went straight into the wall at turn four but only yellow flagged the session. He was able to recover and get back on track
- It was Lando Norris who finished the session with the fastest time, beating Carlos Sainz by under 0.2s
