See who is looking strong in Melbourne after Free Practice 2
FP2 at the Australian Grand Prix felt like a cleaner version of Free Practice 1. Drivers toyed with track limits but avoided the red flags. Here's our rundown:
- The first third of the session saw the same top teams ahead, however one key difference was Lewis Hamilton who had made his way to P2 after issues with the car in Free Practice 1
- Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes was shifting around as he put another lap under his belt. The underside of his car was hitting the curb and raising concerns from the commentary team that he would damage it and disrupt its downforce
- Oliver Bearman, who damaged his Haas in Free Practice 1, didn't go out on track. His team changed his gearbox and power unit following the incident and it seemed the damage couldn't be rectified in time to set a lap time
- Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar edged their Racing Bulls cars higher in this session, sitting in the top 6 at the end of the session
- There was a major rift between Stake teammates Nico Hulkenberg, who sat in the top 10, and Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto who sat near Esteban Ocon at the bottom of the timing pylon
- In the end it was the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc which topped the session over the FP1 leader Lando Norris who finished P3
