Find out which teams and rookies excelled in the first free practice session
Free Practice 1 was entertaining with 10 rookies taking to the track! Robert Shwartzman replaced Charles Leclerc for Ferrari, Felipe Drugovich borrowed Fernando Alonso's car to drive for Aston Martin, and Fredrik Vesti replaced Lewis Hamilton to test drive his Mercedes. The Alpine of Esteban Ocon was lent to Jack Doohan for the session while Theo Pourchaire replaced Guanyu Zhou for Alfa Romeo. Pato O'Ward took over Lando Norri's McLaren while Ollie Bearman took over for the Haas of Nico Hülkenberg, and Zak O'Sullivan made his F1 debut practice session for the Williams of Alex Albon. Lastly, both the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were replaced by Jake Dennis and Isack Hadjar for the session.
George Russell looked strong, keeping his Mercedes in the lead for the majority of the session. Felipe Drugovich also seemed to have a good feel for the car by putting his Aston Martin in second. The Haas of Ollie Bearman seemed to struggle with him finishing in 20th, just behind the Haas of Kevin Magnussen.
