The 3X DRS Boost Chip: Explained | F1 Fantasy Guide (2024)

Many F1 Fantasy players consider the 3X DRS Boost the easiest of the six chips to use as it closely resembles the 2X DRS Boost available to players every week. Let's break down everything we know about this 3X Extra DRS Boost with an example so you can maximize your fantasy team's bonus points this season.

What is it?

As with the other chips, the 3X DRS Boost can only be played once per season. This chip triples the score of any one driver for an entire race weekend. The 2X DRS Boost, which doubles the score of any driver, can be used on the same weekend.

When is the best time to use the 3X DRS Boost?

Two situations provide the best value for the 3X DRS Boost: Sprint weekends and whenever a top driver takes an engine penalty. Sprint weekends feature three events and generate more points for the 3X DRS Boost to triple. For an example of an engine penalty, at the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, Sergio Perez started from the pit lane after taking new parts and scored 52 points (156 with the 3X DRS Boost) after gaining 15 positions and completing 12 overtakes.

Is there anything else players should know about the 3X DRS Boost?

The team above used the 2X DRS Boost on Sergio Perez and the 3X Boost on Max Verstappen, but in every previous race Verstappen carried the 2X Boost (since the reigning champion scores the most points). Remember to put the 2X DRS Boost back on Verstappen after using the 3X chip, otherwise it will stay on Perez. Many players forgot this and doubled the score of Perez and not the runaway #1 driver in fantasy F1.
