Verstappen secured the victory in Brazil from P17 after five drivers retired from the Grand Prix
The race had chaos before it even started. Qualifying took place earlier this morning which saw five drivers crash, resulting in five red flags. Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso, Franco Colapinto, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz all found their way into the barriers which left their mechanics with a short period of time to repair the damages. Alex Albon's car was unable to be repaired on time which saw him withdraw from the Grand Prix. See who claimed victory in Interlagos after the chaos of the session:
- Lance Stroll crashed out in the formation lap after his team, Aston Martin, carefully put his car back together following his crash in qualifying
- Stroll retired from the race before he even started it
- They aborted the race start procedure but it was unclear for some teams and drivers
- Lando Norris, George Russell, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson are are all being investigated for a start procedure infringment
- Lando Norris started on pole but George Russell got ahead of him quickly
- The tarmac was slick and the rain was extremely heavy
- All of the drivers started the race on full wet tires
- Max Verstappen had a great start and made his way up into the top ten after starting in P17 due to his five place grid penalty
- Nico Hulkenberg spun out and looked as if he was retiring from the race
- He restarted his engine and continued but then it was announced that he was shown the black flag and has since been disqualified for the race
- Apparently, Hulkenberg received assistance to restart his car which is against the regulations
- On lap 32 of the race, Franco Colapinto had a large crash at turns 12/13
- This brought out the red flag so that the marshalls had time to clear up the mess
- Lando Norris sounded clearly annoyed on the radio after the red flag was announced because it meant that all of his rivals would be able to switch to fresh tires
- The race was resumed on Lap 33 and the drivers followed a rolling start procedure
- Ollie Bearman had a major spin at Turn 7 but was able to recover his Haas and get back on track
- Carlos Sainz spun off the track and crashed into the barriers resulting in the safety car being deployed
- Sainz retired from the race
- For the second rolling re-start of the race, Lando Norris went off at turn 1 which put him back in 7th position while Max Verstappen was able to get up into the lead
- McLaren swapped driver positions for a second time this race weekend
- Lando Norris overtook Oscar Piastri for the McLaren's to be in P6 and P7
- Max Verstappen took the victory in Brazil ahead of both Alpines, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly
