Piastri claimed pole for the sprint race on Saturday ahead of Norris and Leclerc after some shock eliminations in SQ2
The cars had limited time out on track to get in their laps to set the grid for the sprint race on Saturday. See who will be starting at the front of the grid and who slipped up in sprint qualifying:
The Aston Martin drivers struggled on track and had a very disappoint performance in the sprint qualifying
Lance Stroll finishing in P19 and Fernando Alonso finishing in P16
Alonso had his 400th race start in Mexico where he had to retire the car during the Grand Prix
Yuki Tsunoda has been out-qualified by his teammate, Liam Lawson, after saying his lap felt good but he was unable to find any grip
This could be a result of the new re-surfacing of the track
Valtteri Bottas made it out of SQ1 ahead of his teammate, Guanyu Zhou
The two drivers have continued to struggle with the car all throughout the season, unable to collect a single point
Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto were able to make it out of SQ1 in the last few seconds of the session
Both Albon and Colapinto have been getting the most out of the Williams this year
Christian Horner was seen leaving the Williams motorhome earlier today sparking rumours of a potential seat for Franco Colapinto at either Red Bull or VCARB
SQ2 was very exciting and saw Ollie Bearman, Liam Lawson and Alex Albon all out-qualify their teammates and make it into SQ3
Franc Colapinto will start in P14 on the grid ahead of Valtteri Bottas
Sergio Perez had a nightmare of a qualifying session and was only able to put his Red Bull in P13
Perez has struggled significantly this season and has been out-qualified and out-performed by Max Verstappen in every race so far
Lewis Hamilton was a shock elimination from SQ2 and will start Saturday's Sprint Race in P11
McLaren has looked very dominent throughout this entire qualifying session
Lando Norris has topped each session followed closely behind by his teammate, Oscar Piastri
