Verstappen claimed pole ahead of Russell and Leclerc for the Sprint race at COTA
After only one practice session, the drivers took to the track for the sprint qualifying. Many drivers struggled with the new resurfacing of the track and a few had some scary spins. See who claimed pole position for the Sprint race on Saturday:
- SQ1 was under way with both Sauber drivers not looking too strong
- Zhou Guanyu finished the session in P20 behind his teammate, Valtteri Bottas
- Alex Albon was on track for a quick lap but had a massive spin coming out of the last turn
- He will start the sprint race in P18
- Oscar Piastri had an unfortunate qualifying session and didn't make it into SQ3
- Liam Lawson's first time back on track looked promising and he will start the sprint race ahead of Oscar Piastri in P14
- Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso and Liam Lawson all had their times deleted as they exceeded track limits
- Sergio Perez had an uneventful qualifying session and will start the sprint race in P11
- Franco Colapinto continues to display his talent as he puts his Williams in P10
- Max Verstappen claimed pole ahead of George Russell and Charles Leclerc
