Drivers took to the track under the setting Mexican sun... See who brought out the red flag and who topped the session
Teams blindly tested Pirelli's C6 tire compound during an extended 90-minute session. Here's what happened:
- George Russell crashed early on in the session bringing out the red flag
- He was taken to the medical center for extra precautions.
- The red flag significantly cut into the session time
- Max Verstappen appeared to grapple with the problems he faced in Free Practice 1.
- The Dutch world champion never made it onto the track
- The same situation was true for Alex Albon, whose crash with Ollie Bearman in Free Practice 1 left the team working to fix the damage
- Yuki Tsunoda ran near the top of the session seemingly very comfortable in his VCARB, ultimately finishing in P3 behind Oscar Piastri (P2) and Carlos Sainz (P1)
- Valtteri Bottas had a strong performance in FP1 and was continued the momentum for FP2, finishing in P8
- Local hero Sergio Perez had an uneventful practice session and could only run as high as 8 in FP2. He finished P9
- Alonso and Norris had a close fight on track during the practice session
- Norris locked up, hurting his tires
- Alonso wasn't able to set a solid time during the session and only finished in P11
