The Autopilot Chip: Explained | F1 Fantasy Guide (2024)

Autopilot provides a simple hedge against bad luck to maximize the output from your 2X DRS Boost. Let's break down everything we know about the Autopilot chip so you can optimize its use this season.

What is it?

Like all the others, this chip can only be played once per season. Autopilot moves the 2X DRS Boost to the driver with the highest score on your team.

When is the best time to use it?

Most players apply the 2X DRS Boost to the best driver on their team, typically reigning World Champion Max Verstappen. On rainy weekends or later in the season when we see more DNFs, Autopilot can protect against a race-ending mistake. Also, on weekends where another top driver in your lineup (Perez, Norris, Alonso, etc.) takes an engine penalty to start at the back of the grid, they may outscore Verstappen by virtue of their positions gained and overtake points.

What does Autopilot look like in action?

For this example, I applied the 2X DRS Boost to Oscar Piastri to start the week.

After the Grand Prix, the 2X chip moved automatically from Piastri (who retired after lap 1) to Verstappen (who scored the most points).
