Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was surprised that Sergio Perez finished seventh in the Belgian Grand Prix after starting in second place. The team hoped Perez would at least make it to the podium, especially after his strong qualifying performance. Pierre Gasly has led tributes to Anthoine Hubert ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. Formula 2 driver Hubert was just 22 years old when he died during a race in Spa in 2019. Gasly and Hubert were very close friends, and Hubert's crash left Gasly devastated. Every year, Gasly returns to the crash site to lay flowers and pay his respects.
