Who was able to put it on pole and which drivers struggled during the session
The first Qualifying session of the year is done and what a thrilling hour it was! It was an upsetting start to the season for Alpine and Kick. Here's what happened:
- Q1 left both Stake F1 and Alpine drivers at the back of the pack, with Logan Sargeant trailing his teammate by nearly 0.4s to be the fifth driver eliminated
- The final seconds of Q2 were chaotic with Mercedes sitting in the drop zone until the very end. As the dust settled, Hamilton jumped to fourth behind both Ferraris and Max Verstappen. Nico Hulkenberg had an impressive run and finished P6
- In the final round, Max Verstappen was in a league of his own, finishing ~0.250s ahead of the next best competitor: Charles Leclerc. George Russell finished P3 and Carlos Sainz in P4 to round out the first two rows of the starting grid
