Carlos Sainz converted his pole start into a win, followed by Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc

It was an eventful to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Here's what happened in the race:

  • Yuki Tsunoda was pinched in the first seconds of the race as Pierre Gasly moved across the course, prompting a collision with Williams' Alex Albon. Both Tsunoda and Albon had their cars retrieved as a safety car came into effect
  • Sergio Perez launched off the line gaining 5 positions amidst the chaos of the opening lap, however, Checo's car was too far ahead in the grid box and he received a 5 second penalty
  • After the green flag resumed the race Carlos Sainz overtook Max Verstappen for the race lead. Immediately after, Max and Lando Norris battled for position. Charles Leclerc took advantage of the opportunity to move into P2 behind his teammate, and Max Verstappen received a 10 second penalty for forcing Norris off the track
  • Fernando Alonso was forced to retire his car after just 16 laps, a major upset for the Spanish driver on his 400th Grand Prix
  • Max Verstappen was awared a second 10 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage as part 2 to his fight with Lando Norris from earlier in the race. That brough him to 20 seconds total penalty time just 20 laps into a 71 lap race
  • Sergio Perez clashed with Liam Lawson for position which put a hole in the Mexican driver's sidepod. He spent much of the race in 18th place with only the cars who DNF'd behind him
  • Charles Leclerc had a brief moment of oversteer at the end of lap 63 and nearly careened into the wall. He caught the car, but in that moment Lando Norris was able to capitalize and move into P2
  • Colapinto and Lawson fought on lap 67 which forced Lawson to pit for a new front wing
  • Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez fought for the fastest lap in the final minutes and it was the Ferrari driver who came out on top, while his teammate Carlos Sainz went on to convert his pole start to a win
