Verstappen will start on pole for the Qatar Grand Prix ahead of Russell

Max Verstappen will start on pole ahead of George Russell and Lando Norris for the Qatar Grand Prix

After an eventful sprint race, the drivers are back in the car for the qualifying session. Oscar Piastri took the sprint race win earlier this morning ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris. McLaren has secured a few more points to widen the gap between them and Ferrari in the Constructor's fight. See what happened in the session and who will start on pole for the Grand Prix:

  • After a very successful sprint race, Nico Hulkenberg seemed to be on the back foot in Q1
    • He was eliminated and will start the race in P18 after suffering from a partially charged battery
  • Many of the drivers dipped their wheels in the gravel trap which made it difficult for them to secure solid times
  • Unfortunately, Williams had an underwhelming Q1 with both drivers being eliminated
    • Albon will start in P16 ahead of his teammate, Franco Colapinto, who will start in P19
  • Liam Lawson had a very impressive qualifying session for the Sprint race, but fell short in Q1 today
    • He will start in P17 while his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, out-qualified him and will start in P14
  • Both of the Sauber drivers had a solid qualifying result with Guanyu Zhou finishing in P12 ahead of his teammate, Valtteri Bottas who finished in P13
  • Pierre Gasly just got squeezed out of the top ten and will start the race in P11 while Esteban Ocon will start from last on the grid in P20
  • Fernando Alonso had a lap time deleted in Q3 at Turn 10
    • He only had one chance to set a solid flying lap time
  • Lando Norris was in the middle of a flying lap with 3 minutes left of Q3 but backed out of it giving him only one more chance to set a time
  • Max Verstappen claimed his first official pole position since the Austrian Grand Prix
    • George Russell will start in P2 ahead of Lando Norris
