Oscar Piastri leads a McLaren 1-2 in the Qatar sprint ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell
The drivers took to the track for the sprint race in Qatar. Lando Norris started on pole ahead of George Russell and his teammate, Oscar Piastri. Franco Colapinto and Sergio Perez started from the pit lane after there were changes made to the cars under Parc Ferme. See what happened in the sprint:
- Lando started on poel and held on to the lead
- His teammate, Oscar Piastri, got past George Russell at the start
- Franco Colapinto had a strong start from the pit lane, immediately getting past Sergio Perez
- Max Verstappen had one of his worst starts of the season and lost three places in the first lap
- Perez looked to be struggling with his car as he barely reacted to the green light and was showing a complete lack of speed
- On lap 15, Perez came in and changed out his front nose which could have been a reason for his lack of pace
- Nico Hulkenberg had a very strong performance and moved up from P9 to P7 to secure two points for Haas
- Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton had some solid fights in the sprint
- The future teammates were very close to making contact, but they both made it out clean
- Leclerc set the fastest lap of the sprint
- Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri swapped places in the last 100m of the race
- Oscar Piastri won the Qatar sprint ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris and the Mercedes of George Russell
