Was the pole sitter able to secure the win or did someone else claim the victory?

It was clear skies and hot track temperatures at the Hungaroring. Here's what happened at the Hungarian Grand Prix:

  • Max Verstappen went late on the brakes at the opening lap, lining up side-by-side with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. While visibly frustrated, Max gave the place back to avoid a penalty
  • Teams applied a variety of early tire strategies. The majority started on mediums, while three of the four teams who started on softs changing tires in the first 10 laps
  • Despite taking new power unit components before the race, Pierre Gasly was forced to retire the car on lap 35. It continues to be a difficult season for the driver and his team
  • McLaren kept Oscar out for an extra lap before pitting for the second time. The team orders prompted the Australian driver to concede the race lead to his teammate. McLaren signaled to Oscar that Lando would return the place if Oscar could get close again, but the gap only increased in the final stages of the race
  • Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton made contact on turn 1 after the Dutch driver came in hot for an overtake
  • After more than 15 laps of pleading over the radio, McLaren rectified their decision to pit Lando Norris first by convincing him to give the race lead back to Oscar Piastri
  • It was Oscar Piastri who secured his maiden win in the end, with Lando Norris in P2 and Lewis Hamilton in P3 to round out the podium. George Russell had the fastest lap
