Race Week Rewind: Singapore

Here’s the F1 Fantasy news you might have missed ahead of the lineup lock deadline.

Kevin Magnussen Returns

Kevin Magnussen returns to F1 Fantasy $0.2M lower than where he left it

After serving a one-race ban for accumulating twelve penalty points, Kevin Magnussen rejoins the grid at Marina Bay this weekend. He started the race week with a bit of humor on the subject, telling reporters, "You get punished, and then you come back and you're like 'oh, ready to f**k s**t up now'...it's funny how that works". Magnussen received a 25-point penalty and $0.2M price drop due to his Inactive status at Baku. With the rise of more cost-efficient Tier C assets in recent weeks, K-Mag is no longer a must-have asset.

Upgrade Watch

  • During the early media sessions on Thursday, Charles Leclerc shared that Ferrari plan to unveil another upgrade this weekend.
  • Rumors continue to swirl about Williams debuting the second half of the promising aerodynamics package first introduced at Zandvoort.
  • While not an upgrade, scrutiny continues to mount over recent evidence of McLaren's rear wing flexing under aerodynamic load. While no changes are expected for Singapore, the FIA may publish additional guidance during the upcoming break.

Keep an eye out for this week's Tech Corner by Terry from Coffee Corner Motorsport. This article reviews every major technical change announced in the FIA documents in the lead up to Free Practice 1.

Weather Update (Thursday Evening)

The weekend weather forecast for Singapore

While the forecast remains the same since the Fantasy Preview earlier this week, several outlets report that the rain is expected in the morning hours. With the sessions scheduled at night, we may see some initial grip issues but otherwise dry weather for the weekend. This reduces the likelihood of rain-induced DNFs, however the walls of circuit still hover perilously close to the track and risks of attrition still remain.

Pirelli Tire Report

The softest compounds in the line return to action, while hopefully the Intermediate and Wet tires never leave the garage. High track evolution is expected with a street circuit and perhaps even more so given the morning rain and potential to clean off any rubber laid down the day before. High downforce plus a fourth DRS zone tells us that DRS efficiency will be critical for overtaking.
