Style Guide - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The jam-packed 2024 season of Formula 1 bids farewell this Sunday at Yas Marina Circuit—an ode to the pinnacle of motorsports’ finale. This Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we’ve got our eyes locked on the special helmet designs: from Zhou Guanyu to George Russell, they’re all about the heartwarming moments we can clearly remember in the back of our heads. Here are the special designs compiled for this Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Zhou Guanyu - Special Helmet

Zhou Guanyu had his share of memorable experiences this season—to name a few, scoring points for Sauber and being the first Chinese driver to race on home soil. This Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Zhou unveiled a special helmet design to commemorate his highs and lows with his team. The design incorporates images of his pet cat Sweetcorn, teammate Valtteri Bottas, his first race during the Chinese Grand Prix, and even his beloved fans.

George Russell - Special helmet

It’s no secret that Lewis Hamilton has been a part of many drivers’ journey as an idol they look up to—and George Russell is one of them. With a helmet tribute to Hamilton who is leaving his team of 12 years, the one-off design sported by Russell features a cartoon illustration of the two with a text saying, ‘See you on track, Lewis.’ On top of Russell’s helmet, another text written ‘Crazy how time flies!’ is overlaid atop of two black-and-white images between the two drivers—from young Russell anticipating an autograph from Hamilton to Hamilton spraying champagne on Russell at the podium. Time flies quickly!

Lewis Hamilton - Dedication Livery Addition

6 championships, 12 years, 246 races, and 84 victories with Mercedes. It’s no surprise to know that the team will be revealing a special livery for the legendary driver before his blockbuster move to Ferrari. As a farewell livery, Hamilton will have the names of 150 fans on his Mercedes W15. Draped in the colours of Mercedes, 150 fans have their name on the W15 of Lewis Hamilton for his final Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the team.

Carlos Sainz - Special Fireproofs

A special fireproof - beyond the change of color for a race suit for a sponsor is rare. Carlos Sainz will be leaving Ferrari after a fantastic period of success including many podiums and race wins. As a dedication to this success, Carlos' fireproofs are adorned with the track, date, and podium finish (1st, 2nd, 3rd) to commemorate the memories spent at Ferrari.

As a special addition to this, his race suit has a chili pepper and "smooth operator" along the ankles!

Esteban Ocon - Alpine (Not racing)

As of recently, it has been announced that Esteban Ocon wouldn’t be racing for Alpine this race weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit to ensure his Haas test. While he stepped down from the final race, he had prepared a special helmet for what was meant to be his last dance with the team. Featuring images of him standing on the podium, he had also included a text written ‘Merci, Thank You’ above his pictures.
