The drivers took to the track for the first practice session of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. This is the start of a very exciting weekend... See who topped the timesheets for FP1
We are back from the two week break for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The drivers took to the track for Free Practice 1, see who looked strong in Vegas and who was looking to struggle out on track:
- This is the third last race in of the 2024 season and the Championship could not be closer
- Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are still in the fight for World Drivers Champion. If Lando outscores Max by at least three points this weekend, he will still be in the fight going to Qatar
- The track had very cool temperatures which made it difficult for the drivers to gain traction and grip out on the circuit
- Mercedes was looking very strong with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell leading FP1 for the majority of the session
- Oscar Piastri was suffering from some technical problems as he was unable to turn his car off when he entered the Pit Lane
- Verstappen had a big lock up which just proves this is one of the more slippery tracks out on the calendar
- The mix of the cool temperature and dust from the desert make it very difficult for the drivers to find grip out on track
- Ferrari are expected to be strong this weekend with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc looking very promising out on track
- Sainz finished the session in P6 and Leclerc finished in P4
- Liam Lawson was really struggling in his VCARB and finished the session in P20
- Lewis Hamilton topped the session ahead of his teammate, George Russell and Lando Norris
*Valtteri Bottas will have a 5-place grid penalty for the Grand Prix after getting a new Energy Store for his car
