Discover insider information on the best ways to reach the Mexican Grand Prix

The Mexican Grand Prix is one of the favorites on the 2023 Formula 1 calendar. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is conveniently  located roughly a 35 minute drive from downtown Mexico City. With the Grand Prix rapidly approaching, it is imperative to plan the best and most efficient ways to reach the circuit to ensure a seamless race weekend experience.

Getting to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

Mexico City transportation

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is located about 35 minutes from downtown Mexico City. The circuit itself is very much reachable my many means of transportation including driving, rideshare, taxis, bus and even by taking the metro.

Flying into Mexico City

Mexico City’s main airport is Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX) and it is conveniently located very close to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguz. The best way to get from the airport to downtown Mexico City is to take the metro which is located inside the airport. Tickets for the metro are as cheap as $5 MXN ($0.20 USD). The other way to reach downtown would be to take a taxi or rideshare. Prices range from $100-300 MXN ($5-20 USD) depending on where you want to go in the city as well as the time of day you are traveling.

Flying into Toluca

The Toluca airport is only an hour and twenty minute drive away from the Mexico City Airport. This is a great option for people who are traveling to Mexico City for the Grand Prix as this airport may be slightly less busy during the race weekend. There are multiple ways to get from the Toluca airport to the Mexico City airport. Shuttle buses take about an hour to get to and from each ariport but they are relatively cheap with prices ranging from $500 - 1,763 MXN ($30-60 USD). Other ways to reach Mexico City include renting a car, or taking a taxi or form of rideshare. Costs are very dependent on time of day and the day of the week you are traveling.

Flying into Puebla

The Puebla International Airport is located an hour and a half away from the Mexico City airport. This is another great option for people who are visiting Mexico City for the Grand Prix. Despite it being located slightly further, it is very easy to commute closer to the circuit. Just like traveling from TLC, there are multiple ways to reach Mexico City either by taking a bus, driving, taxi/rideshare or taking a shuttle.

Arriving by car

Driving is one of the more convenient ways to reach the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. If you plan on renting a car, prices can range from $717 - 1,795 MXN ($40-100 USD) per day depending on the vehicle and the duration that you use it for. If you have your own vehicle, the only extra cos to worry about will be parking around the city and at the circuit. If you aren’t planning on driving yourself, taking a taxi or a rideshare is also a very convenient and easy way to reach the circuit as it eliminates the stress of finding parking.

Arriving by Bus

Metrobús is Mexico City’s rapid transit system that is one of the most efficient and reliable ways to get around the city. To use the Metrobús, you will need to use a prepaid metro card. It costs approximately $30 MXN (~$1.65 USD) to ride the bus, which makes it one of the most affordable options for navigating the city. Arriving by Metro

Metrobus Line 2 - Mexico City

The other line to check out would be Line 2: Tacubaya-Tepalcates (the purple line). There are two drop off locations that will take you right to the South-West side of the circuit.

Metrobus Line 9 - Mexico City

The metro is definitely the easiest way to traverse across the city. With numerous lines that give you freedom to explore all over, the metro is the quickest and most convenient way to reach the Grand Prix. If you do decide to take the metro to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, look out for Line 9: Pantitlán-Tacubaya (the brown line) as there are three drop off locations that are right by the circuit.

  2. Ciudad Deportiva
  3. Velòdromo
