Hadjar consistently performed well throughout each series, which saw him streamline through the process of becoming a Formula 1 driver. The Frenchman will partner Yuki Tsunoda at Racing Bulls for the 2025 season, after it was announced that Liam Lawson would be moving to Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen.

Isack Hadjar's age, family and early life

Born on September 28th, 2004, Isack Hadjar is currently 20 years old, which makes him one of the youngest drivers on the grid when he joins the Racing Bulls Formula 1 team in 2025. Like many other drivers, Hadjar’s love for the sport began when he was just seven years old and tried his hand at karting.

Hadjar grew up in Paris, France and was born into an Algerian family where he holds dual citizenship, making him a French and Algerian racing driver. Hadjar’s parents are both physicians and physicists, making him an outlier in the family for pursuing racing. Yassine Hadjar, Isack’s father, was also a kart mechanic at one point in time. It is rumoured that Hadjar initially became enamored with the idea of motorsport after watching the Pixar animated movie, Cars.

Hadjar started his racing career in 2012 and then later moved into the International racing scene in 2017. It wasn’t until 2019 when Hadjar made his first single seater debut in the French F4 Championship. Hadjar joins Racing Bulls for the 2025 season and will be one of five rookies joining the Formula 1 grid for that season.

Start of Isack Hadjar's F1 journey

Isack Hadjar will be joining the Formula 1 grid in 2025 after Racing Bulls announced the young Frenchman as their second driver alongside Yuki Tsunoda. This announcement followed a series of announcements during the 2024 season that saw Daniel Ricciardo being replaced by Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls, then Sergio Perez leaving Red Bull, Liam Lawson being announced as Perez’s replacement at Red Bull, and then finally, Isack Hadjar replacing Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls.

Hadjar made his first appearance in the Formula racing series back in 2019 when he made his single seater debut in the French F4 Championship. Hadjar had actually struggled with reaching the pedals in the car because of his height, but that didn’t stop him from achieving one race win at Spa. Hadjar finished seventh overall that season and also claimed second in the junior class. In 202, Hadjar raced two weekends of the F4 UAE Championship where he secured 56 points, and claimed eleventh place in the standings. The next season, Hadjar had gotten into the groove of his racing and won three races, secured eight podiums, and two pole positions which saw the Frenchman finish in third place in the drivers’ standings.

Hadjar made his Formula Regional debut in 2021 after driving in the first three rounds of the F3 Asian Championship with Evans GP. He made it clear he was a force to be reckoned with when he secured numerous podium finishes, most notably, three podiums in the second round at Yas Marina. Although Hadjar did not finish the season, he still managed to secure sixth place in the drivers’ standings.

In 2021, Hadjar moved to the Formula Regional European Championship, where he partnered Zane Maloney, Léna Bühler, and Hadrien David at R-ace GP. The first round in Imola saw the young driver score his first points along with his rookie win. He claimed his first Formula Regional victory in the first race in Monaco. Despite having a very strong start to the season, Hadjar was unable to claim any more podium finishes until the final round of the season. Hadjar finished in fifth in the standings, and was short just four points behind his teammate, Zane Maloney. Although he wasn’t a top finisher, Hadjar still won the honors for the best rookie of the season.

Hadjar moved on to race in the formula Regional Asian Championship at the start of 2022 with Hitech Grand Prix. He had a solid season and finished in third place in the drivers’ standings after securing two wins over the course of the season. Hadjar then moved up into the Formula 3 Championship where he drove for Hitech Grand Prix and was able to finish in an impressive fourth place in the championship standings. Over the course of the season, Hadjar had secured a myriad of podiums and was a title contender up until the final few races.

Hadjar then joined Hitech Grand Prix in 2023 to race in the Formula 2 Championship. The 2023 season in F2 was not Hadjar’s best year of racing. He had a number of disappointing results and unlucky finishes which saw the young driver take 14th place in the drivers’ standings, only two points behind his teammate, Jak Crawford. In 2024, Hadjar partnered Pepe Martí at Campos Racing for a second chance in the Formula 2 Championship. He had a very impressive season, securing numerous podium finishes and consistently being in the top ten. Hadjar was in the title fight with Gabriel Bortoletio right until the final race. Unfortunately, Hadjar stalled at the start of the feature race in Abu Dhabi which then saw the Brazilian claim his championship win ahead of the Frenchman. Hadjar was extremely disappointed with the outcome, despite finishing runner up in the championship after a season that saw him secure four wins, eight podiums, one pole position, one fastest lap, and secure nearly double the amount of points in comparison to his teammate.

In December of 2024, it was announced that Isack Hadjar would be driving for Racing Bulls during the 2025 Formula 1 season alongside Yuki Tsunoda. This is a very exciting new chapter for Hadjar and it will be interesting to see what he can deliver for the team and himself.
