The opening lap was clean, with Max Verstappen staying out ahead of Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and Carlo Sainz. The top 6 remained unchanged even as the first teams pitted for new tires
Williams struggled early with Alex Albon reporting his tire wasn't secured properly. It prompted a lap 10 pit stop and a 10 second penalty for an unsafe release. The Thai driver eventually retired from the race and was not classified
The majority of the race was spent with teams managing tires and sequencing pit stops to maintain their position
Lando Norris turned up the heat on race leader Max Verstappen with less than 10 laps to go. The British driver began rapidly gaining on the Dutchman but ran out of time to pass in the final laps
