For the first time since 1987, we are back at Suzuka in April! Find out how the teams are shaping up after the first practice session of the weekend
The first half of the session was uneventful, but that all changed when someone red flagged the session. Here's what you need to know:
- Japanese rookie Ayumu Iwasa, who currently competes in the Super Formula Championship series, took the seat of VCARB driver Daniel Ricciardo for the session. His lap times kept him around P15 on the timesheet
- Logan Sargeant took to the track with the repaired chassis from Australia. He went on to red flag the session when he crashed into a barrier. The front wing was destroyed and shots of the team in the garage showed their concern that more significant damage could jeopardize his entire weekend
- The Red Bulls had a strong performance, with Max Verstappen finishing P1 and Sergio Perez P2 for the session. They were trailed by Carlos Sainz in P3
