F1's Q3 revenue surges by $172 million

In 2023, Formula 1 reported a 61% increase in operating income in the third quarter, primarily attributed to the addition of an extra race compared to the previous year. Team payments also rose by 17%, totaling $432 million (£349 million), delighting the teams. However, start-up costs for the upcoming Las Vegas race surged by 48% from $124 million (£100 million) in 2022 to $183 million (£147 million) this year. The growth in primary revenue was driven by various factors, including additional races, higher race promotion fees, increased media rights revenue from new contracts, and continued growth in F1 TV subscription income. While the report emphasized the financial success and expansion of F1, it also touched on sustainability initiatives and corporate emissions reduction, signaling a broader focus beyond just the sport itself.

Drivers slam "terrible to drive" Pirelli tires

Formula 1 drivers criticized Pirelli tires during the 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix sprint race, describing them as "terrible to drive" due to severe degradation, which limited pace and strategy options. The mid-pack of the race was characterized by DRS trains and significant lifting and coasting to manage tire wear and temperatures. Alex Albon, a Williams driver, particularly voiced his frustration, stating that both the tire quality and hard compound were recurring issues, especially in hotter races. Other drivers, like Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo, also expressed concerns about extreme degradation, while Charles Leclerc considered the tire issues to be consistent with previous years in hotter conditions.

Haas petitions FIA for review of alleged infractions in Austin

Haas has submitted a petition to the FIA requesting a right of review due to unpenalized track limit infringements during the United States Grand Prix. This request comes after video evidence surfaced, revealing several drivers' violations of track limits, which went unnoticed by the stewards. Haas seeks not just an infrastructure update but also appropriate penalties for these incidents, utilizing Article 14.1.1 of the FIA International Sporting Code. The FIA's decision on Haas' right of review remains uncertain, as race stewards already have access to the available footage.
