Ferrari names new sporting director

Ferrari's Formula 1 Racing Director Laurent Mekies has officially left the team to become AlphaTauri's team principal in 2024, replacing Franz Tost. The switch was announced in April, and Mekies continued in his role until now. Ferrari confirmed his departure after four and a half seasons, during which the team achieved seven wins. Mekies will be on gardening leave until the end of the year, starting his new role at AlphaTauri on January 1, 2024. Diego Loverno, a long-time Ferrari veteran, will take up his sporting director responsibilities at Ferrari.

Spa to challenge McLaren's low-speed cornering

McLaren's two-stage upgrade has dramatically improved their performance, with Lando Norris achieving top-four qualifying positions and finishing as the runner-up in two recent Grand Prix races. However, team boss Andrea Stella warns that their success might not continue at the upcoming Belgian venue due to its unique track characteristics, focusing on three crucial low-speed corners where they currently lose time. Despite the upgrades, Norris feels the MCL60 still lacks handling for his preferred driving style, particularly in low-speed corners. He believes that addressing both low-speed performance and load will further enhance their competitiveness.

Pirelli's exciting tire allocation for Spa

Formula One's tire supplier, Pirelli, will offer an exciting tire allocation for the Belgian Grand Prix, featuring softer compounds. Drivers will have 13 sets of slick tires instead of 11, but rain may limit their use. The tire selection is the same as last year, allowing teams to build on previous data for the challenging Spa circuit with its significant forces and elevation changes. Last year, most teams opted for a two-stop strategy, and Pirelli will mandate high minimum starting pressures for the high-speed track at Spa. The camber limits for the front and rear tires will be -2.75° and -1.50°, respectively.
