DNF vs. Not Classified and the 20-Point Penalty

After the British Grand Prix, many F1 Fantasy strategists questioned the final score of Pierre Gasly. Gasly retired on lap 46 but did not receive the DNF penalty because he classified in the race. What is the difference between DNF and NC and when is the 20-point penalty applied in F1 Fantasy?

The confusion began when Gasly's score included -8 points for positions lost, but not the -20 penalty commonly associated with a DNF:

The rulebook states that any driver that DNF/NC, Did Not Finish/Not Classified, scores -20 points:

So what does it mean to classify a race? Per the 2023 FIA Sporting Regulation, a driver classifies if they have completed 90% of the total race laps rounded down:

62.2 Cars having covered less than 90% of the number of laps covered by the winner (rounded down to the nearest whole number of laps), will not be classified.

In the case of the British Grand Prix, there were 52 laps, so 90% of that is 46.8, or 46 laps rounded down. Since Gasly completed exactly 46 laps, he classified in the race and is not subject to the DNF/Not Classified penalty.
