Some shock exists and exciting Q3 appearances... See what happened during the qualifying session in Baku
Qualifying in Azerbaijan proved to be vry exciting. We saw a shock Q1 elimination and some very exciting Q3 appearances. See what happened during the session:
- Q1 was very exciting with a very unexpected elimination
- Lando Norris, World Drivers' Championship contender, was eliminated in P17 after getting caught under a yellow flag
- Esteban Ocon has been having a nightmare of a weekend after retiring his car in FP1 and only being able to qualify in P20
- Both of the Stake drivers were also eliminated with Zhou Guanyu finishing the session in P19 and Valtteri Bottas finishing in P18
- Daniel Ricciardo had soem promising practice sessions but was only able to qualify in P16 behind his teammate Yuki Tsunoda who qualified in P12
- Ollie Bearman had a very strong qualifying to put his car in P11 for the Grand Prix
- He was disappointed to miss out on Q3 but he still out qualified his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, who qualified in P14 and is normally known for his solid qualifying performances
- Aston Martin driver, Lance Stroll, was only able to put his car in P15 on the grid
- Pierre Gasly out-qualified his Alpine teammate to finish the session in P13
- Franco Colapinto has been a star this weekend
- After crashing out in FP1, he redeemed himself to make it into Q3 and qualify in P9
- With 3 minutes left in Q3, Alex Albon had to stop on the track after realizing his mechanics left the fan on his car
- This caused a yellow flag and nearly ended his qualifying early but he was able to to dislodge it and hand it over to a marshal
- After Williams had been looking strong all weekend long, this was a very terrible mistake for the team
- Charles Leclerc claimed pole ahead of Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz
*Zhou Guanyu will start at the back of the grid after receiving a penalty for making power unit changes between practice sessions
