It was an action-packed first sprint of the season! Find out who came out on top
The first Sprint of the year didn't disappoint! It kicked off in China with a clean start and didn't stop for 19 laps. Here's what happened:
- Before it began, Nico Hulkenberg moved from P19 to the pit lane after the Stake F1 team changed his suspension
- Liam Lawson was late to break and collided with Alpine's Jack Doohan. It was another incident in Liam's first full season in Formula 1 but thankfully for both drivers they were able to keep racing
- Both Aston Martin drivers - Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso - reported issues with their car. Lance Stroll signalled an issue with his DRS
- Lewis Hamilton had a clean start and was able to stay out ahead of Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. By lap 9 Hamilton his gap narrowed to around 7 tenths of a second
- Race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase radioed his driver, Max Verstappen, to suggest playing with racing lines and finding clean air, ultimately mitigating tire issues in his chase for the win
- Lando Norris struggled for pace, calling to his engineer that he was "flat out" while sitting in P9 behind Lance Stroll
- Oscar Piastri was able to overtake Max Verstappen and put the chase on Lewis Hamilton with only 3 laps left in the Sprint
- Charles Leclerc battled with George Russell through the final turns of the final lap but it wasn't enough and he finished in P5
- In the end it was Lewis Hamilton's show, with the British seven-time Formula 1 world champion crossing the finish line with a significant gap to the grid
